Congress goes online

1 August 2006

The ITF has developed a special Congress website – available at www.itfglobal.org/congress – which contains all the resources delegates will need during their visit, as well as information that will be of interest to trade unionists around the world.

The site is being updated continuously for the duration of Congress, featuring daily notices, interesting articles and interviews, as well as a complete calendar and list of motions and resolutions. Congress Daily can also be downloaded from the site.

Among other contents is “The Essential Guide to Congress”, a complete calendar of Congress meetings, including the times and meeting locations.

Users can read meeting documents online, download materials, and find other useful information by clicking on a meeting and following the available links.

ITF web manager Eric Spry points out that this is the first time the ITF has provided a comprehensive online Congress facility. “We are taking the whole Congress experience online,” he says. “People will have easy access to important information before, during, and long after congress.”

Be sure to check out the “My Congress” area of the site, where the ITF will present a collection of video and audio clips, photos, and interviews with Congress attendees. Messages can be posted here on a user friendly bulletin board.

Congress internet café
Delegates and visitors wishing to view the Congress website while in Durban – or who want to go online for any other reason – can do so at the Congress’s own internet café. The internet café has 50 monitor stations and is located in Room 22 on the upper level of the International Convention Centre.

Web workshops
Two workshops for Congress delegates and visitors who want to know more about the ITF’s websites and online services have been arranged in Durban. Titled “Using the Internet to Organise Globally”, both workshops will be held in Room 12 of the International Convention Centre. The first is on Friday 4 August from 2pm to 3.30pm; the second is on Sunday from 9.30am to 10.30am.
